About Me

My journey into counselling began in my twenties, after I sought support for my own challenges, including substance use. That experience sparked a deep respect for the power of counselling and led me to train in this field.

I have completed studies in counselling, psychology, and artistic therapy, and I worked for over 15 years in government-funded mental health and addiction services before moving into private practice and ACC counselling work.

I am married with three children and live in North Canterbury. I genuinely enjoy getting to know people and supporting them as they make changes that improve their lives.

How does Counselling Work?

Counselling can help you by providing a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges with a trained professional. It supports you in ways such as gaining insight into your problems, developing healthier coping strategies, and improving your overall well-being.

People come to counselling for different reasons and benefit in different ways. Some find it helpful simply to talk things through — to clarify their thoughts and feelings, feel heard and understood, and gain a more positive perspective so they can make their own changes. Others need more structured support, such as understanding and addressing root causes, processing difficult experiences, learning practical strategies, and receiving ongoing support while making changes.

I aim to tailor the support I offer to your needs and goals. Feeling comfortable with your counsellor is important, and I welcome you to meet with me to see whether we would be a good fit.

Counselling can support:

Emotional and Mental Health
Support for anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and addictive behaviours. Builds self-esteem, resilience, and reduces stress-related symptoms.
Overcoming Traumatic Experiences
Move forward with a tailored approach. ACC may fund treatment for sexual assault or abuse — free to meet and discuss eligibility.
Personal Growth and Self-Understanding
Explore thinking and behaviour patterns, challenge negative beliefs, and build self-awareness for greater confidence and personal empowerment.
Relationship and Life Challenges
Guidance through relationship conflict, grief, family issues, and life transitions. Navigate emotional pain and improve communication.
Skill Development
Practical tools — relaxation, assertiveness, mindfulness, and problem-solving — for daily stressors and long-term challenges.
Well-Being
No diagnosis needed. Build resilience, regain control, and lead a more balanced, fulfilling life.
